I started martial arts training at 15 years of age. I have studied several martial arts styles over the past 25 years having achieved a black belt in Taekwondo and Karate. I began Aus-Style Karate-Do in 2002 because of my desire to teach a form of Karate self-defence whilst drawing on techniques from other martial arts styles. |

I have trained under Koochoo Tony Barnes for over five (5) years and gained my 1st Dan in December 2005, with Sensei's Mat and Dain. Glenwood Dojo is where I have taught Aus-Style Karate-Do since August 2003. I take great pride in my students, to see them grow in self-confidence, respect, physical ability and discipline over the time they spend training. The saying "go hard or go home" is something which I believe is relevant in both martial arts and life in general. If you are not prepared to put in the effort, you are wasting the time of others and will not gain anything from it. |

I have been training with Aus-Style Karate-Do since soon after its inception in 2002. I first trained in martial arts when I was in my early twenties. But as with most young guys, other distractions got in the way. It wasn’t until I was in my late thirties and my boys got interested in Karate that I decided to get involved again. I initially trained with a traditional Karate style and enjoyed the discipline and friendship. Koochoo, who I had trained with previously, invited me to see the new style he had developed from his experience of twenty (20) years in martial arts. I found it exciting and challenging and with Koochoo’s open and friendly personality it was fun to come to training. I’ve been with Aus-Style Karate-Do ever since and have obtained the level of 1st Dan black belt. I have also enjoyed the friendship Aus-Style Karate-Do has with other styles of martial arts, which has allowed us to share the different aspects and forms of those styles. |

I've been training with Koochoo for about five (5) years and I don't remember a time when karate wasn't fun for me. I enjoy a challenge and enjoy setting them even more. I've watched many students improve dramatically over the years and it gives me an enormous sense of pride that I helped to get them there. I attempt to make karate as enjoyable for everyone else as it has been for me over the years. In a nut shell, karate has changed my life for the better in so many ways. I'm fitter, stronger, faster, more perceptive and my self-confidence has gone through the roof. If anyone is looking for some direction in their life, or they have trouble believing in themselves, I highly recommend taking up Aus-Style Karate. |

I have been training with Aus-Style Karate-Do since 2004 and have enjoyed every moment of it. I feel fitter and stronger in body, mind and spirit and feel I have developed as a person due to this training. My wife and son are also Aus-Style Karate-Do students and the family and social involvement of this school is a very important aspect of Aus-Style Karate's approach. I believe in and try to uphold the tenets of Friendship, Strength and Respect held by Aus-Style Karate-Do, not only in training but in general day-to-day life. I enjoy training hard and am always looking to further improve and develop my own martial arts skills. As a Sensei I enjoy assisting and encouraging others to reach beyond what they may have initially believed they could achieve regardless of their age or ability when they first began learning, and value the chance to pass on what I have learnt to other students of Aus-Style Karate-Do. |
