Aus-Style Karate-Do
was formed in 2002 by Koochoo (principal) Tony
Barnes. Having achieved two black belts in different martial arts
disciplines Koochoo's desire to pass on his knowledge and martial arts expertise
saw the birth of Aus-Style Karate-Do.
Aus-Style Karate-Do is based on traditional Karate styles, but modified for today’s lifestyle. It is a non-contact style of Karate suitable for beginners of all ages and fitness levels. Our club is a family based club with a high proportion of its members being mothers, fathers and children participating, learning and training together.
Aus-Style Karate-Do uses limited Japanese terminology. We have kept the
traditional Japanese elements and protocols but use English names for most of
the strikes, blocks and kicks so it is easier to understand and remember for new
students.
We have also incorporated a number of martial art techniques from different
styles to widen our skill base and experience in martial arts in general. We have a close relationship with
Sakura Ryu JuJitsu and conduct several cross-training classes per year.
Our training sessions are varied and we conduct special training sessions throughout the year including beach training, pool training and extra fitness sessions.
Our motto is Friendship, Strength, Respect.
Friendship towards each other and the general community.
Strength of body and mind.
Respect for ourselves, our fellow students and Senseis and other members of the wider community.
Aus-Style Karate-Do has the puma as a logo as the puma, although being small, is pound-for-pound, the strongest of the big cats, a species renowned for its speed, strength and agility.
